The painter demonstrates a desire to reduce and simplify his subjects in order to find a more immediate means of expression. This process of simplification is such that Autunnali almost approaches a naïve approach. This is already evident, compositionally, in the creation of an unconventional space. Traditional perspective is undermined in favor of a spatiality instinctively perceived in a two-dimensional dimension. In this context, the subjects, whether people or buildings, are rendered in a generic manner, following compositional rhythms rather than an objective physiognomic description. Even the application of color pursues these expressionistic intentions, with a mostly compact technique that almost follows a Gauguin-esque plat with bright, sunny hues. In other cases, however, especially in the urban landscapes, Autunnali indulges in a more accentuated pictorial style, charged with existential vibrations. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003eGianfranco Autunnali is a Tuscan painter, born in Piombino in 1945, where he lives and works. He trained at the Free Academy of Fine Arts in Livorno, and in addition to being a painter, he is also a graphic artist and printmaker.
