In 1959 he took part in the exhibitions of the VIII Rome Quadrennial. This first participation was followed by others in 1972, 1986 and 1999. In 1961 he was part of the circle of artists (Renzo Vespignani, Ugo Attardi, Fernando Farulli, Piero Guccione and Alberto Gianquinto) who, together with the art critics Antonio Del Guercio, Dario Micacchi and Morosini, created the group called \u003ci\u003eIl pro e il contro\u003c\/i\u003e , a point of reference for research in the field of figurative painting. In 1963 one of his works was exhibited at the exhibition \u003ci\u003eContemporary Italian Paintings\u003c\/i\u003e , held in several Australian cities. In 1963-64 he exhibited at the exhibition \u003ci\u003ePeintures italiennes d'aujourd'hui\u003c\/i\u003e , organized in the Middle East and North Africa. In 1964, he took part in the Venice Biennale, the International Art Exhibition. His first retrospective exhibition was held in 1985 in Milan at the Rotonda della Besana; a second was held in 1987 in Rome at Castel Sant'Angelo. During those years, a monograph edited by Carandente and Mario De Micheli was also published by Vangelista in Milan. A second edition will follow, with the addition of art critic Dario Micacchi. Ennio Calabria's works are held in important private and public collections. Numerous solo exhibitions have been dedicated to his work. In 2009, the exhibition \"La forma da dentro\" (The Form from Within) was a resounding success, first held at the Luciana Matalon Foundation in Milan and then at the Villa Paolina Bonaparte in Viareggio. In 2015, he again took part in the Venice Biennale, exhibiting as part of the \"La Grande Bouffe\" collective. He has worked as an illustrator of short stories, book covers, poetry, and over 90 posters.
