For some artists, this challenge resulted in a total rejection of any visual language, which resulted in the birth of Informal Art. The various Informal movements are certainly connected to American Abstract Expressionism, especially with regard to the gestural component, but they go further in their rejection of any figurative element, even geometric. Their research focuses instead on the material from which their works are composed.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n \u003cp style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003eThis work can be traced back to an informal aesthetic language encompassing three levels of composition. On the first level, the strongly gestural brushstrokes convey flashes of dense, textured color. On the second level, the subtle marks of an illegible italic script, an elegant graphic element but a symptom of incommunicability. On the third level, a cold, monochrome carpet with metallic reflections.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003e Elba Alvarez was born in Pedernales, Venezuela, in 1944. She came to the United States in 1968, bringing with her ideas and visions that filled her canvases with bold, striking colors. She opened a studio in New York City.
