The artist demonstrates a refined technique that allows him to achieve a natural rendering of the subject. Compositionally, the image of the Madonna occupies the entire space, leaving little to the background, which is also completely decontextualized. The painter seems to focus heavily on the subject's plastic qualities, which are enhanced primarily through a complex design of the drapery, evident in the veil around her head and the folds of her sleeves. The artist strives for perfect formal purity, as can be seen in the way the entire subject appears to have a smooth surface. Indeed, the artist's painting style allows very little for atmospherics or pictorial effects. As a result, the figure of the Virgin, while fitting naturally into the painting's space, maintains a compact form that enhances its volumes. The light also plays a role in this regard.
